Facts about Canadian Topo Maps
Base series Canadian topo maps have a native scale of 1:50,000.
That's about twice the US Geological Survey scale of 1:24,000 or
1:25,000.
The maps can vary between metric (meters) and English (feet)
units. Newer maps are metric.
The datum of the original maps also varies between the older
North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27) and newer NAD83 maps.
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grids are pre-printed on ALL
of the Natural Resources Canada base maps. While MyTopo allows you
to turn off UTM grid markings on the exterior collar of the map, the
blue UTM lines are part of the original map.
And of course these maps are produced and provided by the
Department of
Natural Resources Canada. Our MyTopo reproductions are NOT
official DNRC maps, but custom reproductions from the DNRC source.
